NEW HOSPITAL DISTRICT.

A meeting of the committee appointed to about the above object was held last week at Taumarunui. It was decided to supply the Ohura County Council with further particulars of the scheme, and to ask it to reconsider its refusal to be included in the proposed area. A letter from which an extract is given, was read from the Minister of Hospitals:— "Dear Sir, —1 very much regret that J have been unable to answer before, your letter of January 21st. • Though undoubtedly there is much to be argued in favour of making a special hospital district in the neighbourhood of Taumarunui, I am of opinion that the time has not yet arrived to make such a change. The Waikato hospital district is admittedly a largo one, and have under consideration a scheme for dividing the distr'ct; but as more than one hospital board would be concerned in ! such a partition, I would ask your committee to hold 'the matter over for the present, as I am particularly anxious to moot as far as possible the *" wishes of the hospital boardß concerned." It was decided to write asking the Minister for further particulars of the scheme which ho proposed, and pointing- out also that the Taumarunui proposal involved only one board, viz., the Waikato, which was not adverse to the division of the dis • trict. /
