NATIVE LAND TITLES.
HON. MR HERRIES' VIEWS.
The need for amendment in native land laws was brought under notice of the Minister for Native Affairs, Hon. W. H. Herries, by Mr J. M. Killen, at Whangarei. They are worthless to Europeans and dangerous and degrading to natives, said Mr Killen, who emphasised particularly the great delay experienced in obtaining necessary titles owing to the frequent adr journments of the Land Court. Mr Herries, in reply, stated that the question of native lands was a very important one indeed to the district, and he would be pleased to receive any private suggestions in the .lirection of improving its administration.
"My endeavour," concluded Mr Herries, "will always be to try and facilitate exchange between Maori and pakeha, providing the native gets a fair remuneration and does not divest hmself of all his land. That is the keysotne of my policy."
