MAWSON EXPEDITION.
RETURN OF AURORA. By Telegraph.—Press Association.—Copyright Received this day 9.30 a.m. Hobart, This Day. The Aurora has arrived at Esperance Bay and Mr Eitel, the secretary, landed and furnished,an account of the expedition. The Aurora left Hobart on Boxing Day. At Tarooma were embarked 21 Greenland dogs, Captain Amundsen's presentation. The Aurora secured wireletjs communication with Mawson's base at Adelie Land until two days before reaching there. At the request of the Federal Government the Aurora took Captain JameaDavies to test the whaling potentialities. Not a single right whale was observed during the voyage. No land was discerned despite a keen watch. It was found that the forty miles long ice barrier charted last year sixty miles westward of Adelie Land had disappeared. The Aurora passed through less than thirty hours pack ice before reaching the main base, confirming Dr Mawson's assertion of the possible visit to the base in an iron steamer.
