JANINA SURRENDERED TO GREEKS. AFTER HEAVY FIGHTING. By Telegraph..—Proas Association.— CopyTiEM Athens, Thursday. The Greeks have captured Janina, capital of the border province of Epirus, after severe righting. For two days the Greeks bombarded the fortifications at Bizani, defending the town, thirty thousand shells being used in the bombardment. Then the infantry stormed the lines and routed the lurks, indescribable panic following in the flight towards Janina. Essad Pasha, tbe Turkish commander, surrendered the town to the Crown Prince.
Many prisoners and a large number of guns were taken. The Turkish troops in the Chataldja lines are still suffering very acutely from the effects of the severe weather. One hundred Turks on the outposts have been frozen. The result was fatal in 65 caaea.
Many of the men have undergone amputations.
The Powers yesterday informed the allies of Turkey's request for mediation.
The allies replied that they must be consulted together. It is expected that the alliea will consent, but that they will insist upon they payment of an indemnity by Turkey.
