BOARD OF EDUCATION.

At the meeting of the Board of Education, held in Auckland on Thursday the following appointments were made:—Miss F. M Blackett, assistant, Te Kowhai; Miss C. L. Peart, temporary assistant, Te Mata; Miss B M Shortt, temporary assistant, Ngaruawahia; Miss P. McKenize, probationer, Hora Hora. In connection with the application for a school to be erected in Ohura Valley, the inspector recommended that the settlers be asked to erect the school. The chairman expressed himself as strongly opposed to settlers being asked to build schools when the board stood the expense in the city On the motion of Mr Banks, the matter was referred back to the inspector with the advice that he recommend a shelter-shed school to be built in the district. The request for a school at Kanuv?era Pio Pio, was again declined. The question of school accommodation at Ongarue and Ohura Valley was referred to the inspector for a further report. The erection of a new residence at Otorohanga was authorised. The old residence will be sold for removal in due course. , An application for a teacher s residence at Tatu was declined at present. The request by the Kawa committee for assistance towards providing accommodation for the teacher was declined, and the residents are to be informed that in view of the small atSance rent cannot be paid for the Bchool building. , Improvements to paths at the teS's residence at Hangatiki were of a school district at Kinohaku was authorised.
