[iiy ti.i.i.uh \i'ii

. I'JI.KSS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Friday.

When will the Government be able to lift tho limit of X'MW imposed on loans under the Advances to Workers Act? This question, put by » reporter to the Prime Minister, elicited theroply: "Not yet." Mr Massey added that the Government hoped to bo able to romovo the limit presently. The demands for money wore so

numerous, however, that it wan impossible to do any better. Money had to bo found for the advances to settlers and the land for settlement fund, as well as for workers' dwellings.

Regarding the scheme inaugurated by the Hon. J. A. Miliar, under which a worker may have his own bouse built by the Stalo and paid for by small instalment!?, the Prime Minister said that an active policy of land purchase for this purpose had been carried out, but was now slacking owing to financial consideration!:;. During the financial year no less a sum than £50,000 had been spent; on workers' dwellings. The increased price of timber had made it very difficult to keep down the cost and suit the purchasers' tastes.
