FOR THE SABBATH.

BIGOTRY. Bigotry prejudices people against Christianity. ;;; The churches of God were not made for war barracks. People are afraid of riots. You go down the street and you 'see a contest —you hear the report of fire arms. You are not foolish enough to go down that street —you go around the block. Well, men have looked off sometimes upon this narrow path to heaven and they have said "I believe I will take the broad road." Why! There are so many brick-bats being thrown in the narrow path and there is so much sharpshooting. T&e hostility that is displayed amongst the various Christian denominations drives men away from the Cross. We need to cultivate more of the Christ like spirit. To overcome this spirit let all Christians think chiefly upon the points on which they are agreed. Salvation through faith in Christ. This is the fundamental —let us agree on this point and forget the minor points of doctrine. Thus will His Kingdom be extended and His name more abundantly glorified. Then we may agree on the doctrine of works in conjunction with faith, for it is ever true that "faith without works is dead." If we attempt to magnify the essentials and practically forget the non-essentiala this world will be decidedly the better for our sojourn therein. General Booth's last Christmas message was typical of the man and his lite's work. "Have you heard the good tidings? Christmas has come. He has brought you the priceless blessings of forgiveness, happiness, usefulness and heaven. Have you found the treasure? If net, seek it this very day. Don't let Christ live and die in vain."

[Follow withreverent steps the great example Of Him Whose holy work was "do' ing good." So shall the wide earth seem our Father's temple, Each loving life a. Psalm of gratitude. —Whittier. PRICELESS PEARLS. With God it is impossible that anything, however, small, if only it be suffered for God's sake, shall pass without its reward. God—so loved—He gave His only begotten son —whosoever believeth—not perish but have—life. "Have faith in God"—this really moans "Have the faith of God," or as Hudson Taylor put it, "Reckon on God's faith to you." There is but one failure, and that is not to be true to the best one knows. A noble ideal makes a noble life. Keep your eyes on the stars, but your feet on the ground. Nearer, still nearer, whil* life shall

last, Till safe in glory, my anchor is cast; Thro' endless ages ever to be Nearer my Saviour still nearer to Thee.

"My memory is pretty poor," said the old lady, "hut I have a good 'forgittery.' " Often a good "forgittery" is better than a good memory. Paul says "Forgetting those things which are behind" —how would it be if we determined to forget—The worries of the past; the grudges of the past; the failures of the past; the ugly words and mean deeds; our doubts and our fears.

God will not change; the restless . years may bring Sunlight and shade—the glories of the

spring, And sil»nt gloom of sinless winter hours, Joy mixed with grief—sharp thorns with fragrant flowers; Earth-lights may shine awhile and then grow dim, But God is true—there iB no change in Him.

"No, I don't know Jesus, but I know a friend of His, and I like her," said a London street arab to a minister. Is the same thing Baid concerning you? Are we reflecting Christ daily? Do people know that we are His and He is ours? If not, is it not time that they did?
