MOKAUITI SPORTS.

A SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. Fine weather, but dull, favoured the settlers in bringing off the annual sports gathering at Mokauiti on Thursday. The Mokauiti sports have come to be recognised throughout the district, and settlers together with their wives and children gather from near and far to do honour to the occasion. Hitherto the sports have been held on Messrs Erikssen and McDonald's property, but this year a central position was secured at the corner of the road on Mr Fraei's flat. The ground is admirably situated and can be converted into a fine recreation ground, but the running track was a shade rough. Mr C. K. Wilson, member for the district, attended the sports and took part in one or two events. As anchor man in the tugo'war he did yeoman's service for his side which had hardly anything the worst of the pull, though it did get beaten. The programme was well varied, the events numbering twentytwo, including races for the children. Following are the results: — Boys' race under 12.years. F. Bowring 1, C. Clarke 2, 0. Coombridge 3.
