TARANAKI LAND BOARD.
";i; MONTHLY MEETING, The monthly meeting of the Taranaki Land Board was held at the district office, New Plymouth, on Thursday. The Commissioner of Crown Lands (Mr G. H. Bullard) presided, and other members present were Messrs Heslop, Rattenbury, and Ryan. APLICATIONS FOR LAND. P. C. McGregor and F. J. Payne applied for section 4, block 3, Upper Waitara. —Approved. Harry Osborne applied for section 15, block 11, Mapara.—N. D. Jones had previously applied for this section and had paid the necessary deposit, and it was decided to cancel his approval, refund the deposit, and approve of Osborne'B application. T. O'Connor and G. Baxter applied for section 7, block 13, Waro. Approved.
APPLICATIONS FOR TRANSFERS. The mortgage*) of H. Blair applied to be allowed to transfer Bection 4, block 7, Mahoe, to Walter Rogers. Approved. The board reconsidered the application by Janet Eide to transfer sectiun 4, block 7, Waro, to Jacobine and Alfred Hagenson. It transpired that Mr«! Hagenson'a husband held 1025 acres, and she was therefore not landless. —The board rescinded the previous approval and" decided to extend the time for three months to effect a transfer to an eligible per«on. John Chadwick applied to transfer Bection 4, block 15, Upper Waitara, to R. H. Phillips, junr., on account of illness.—Approved. The dissolution of partnership bewteen H. and G. Blank in section 9, block 11, Aria, was approved. W. Graham applied to transfer section 2, block 6, Mahoe, to H. A. McLeod, owing to want of access. Both parties appeared at the meeting, and after questioning them and going into all the facts it was resolved to decline the application. W. Webb applied to transfer section 5, block 16, Omona, to Otto Buchman. —Approved subject to improvements being completed. W. J. Weston applied to transfer sub-sections 2 and 3 of section W, New Plymouth Town Belt, to C. Skitrop.—Approved. P. A. Kelly and W. J. Shaw applied to transfer Bection 4, block 14, Omona, to P. A. Kelly, F. Hill, and B. Dive. Mr Dive attended the meeting and, replying to questions, said the held other land, which he had sublet with a purchasing clause. The board declined to the transfer unless Dive diveEted himself of his interest in other land. He asked to be allowed to submit his daughter's name as a transferee, and was told that the application would be considered.
Applications from T. Haatie to transfer sections 11, 12, and 20, block 13, Mahoe, sections 21 and 22, block 14, Maboe, and sections 9, 10, 12, 13, and 14, block 1, Taurakawa, were deferred for farther consideration. The transfer of section 544, town of New Plymouth, from Mary Bullot to Willaim Sadler was confirmed. C. L. Kaspar, who obtained section 11, block 4, Ngaere, in November last, applied to transfer to H. Simson.— The application was postponed to enable the proposed transferee to attend.
W. M. Humphries applied to trans fer section 2, block 12, Ngaere, to R. Jackson —Approved subject to the transferee divesting himself of his lease of 115 acres.
A Hayward applied to transfer section 6, block 1, Piopiotea West, to Alice Bowerß, on account of his wife's ill-health. Owing to Mrs Bowers not being landless the application was refused. F. A. Cutfield applied to trans er section 7, block 15, Upper Waitara, to C. A. Symons.—Approved. EXCHANGES. R. C. Nelson applied to exchange section 37, block 16, Egmont. with P. Moratti. All conditions being fulfilled, the exchange was agreed to; Moratti's holding was section 2, block 15, Ngatimaru. J. C. B. Walsh applied to transfer by exchange to A. E. Orudis sections 4, 5, 6, and 7, block 1, Mimi. —Approved subject to the completion of the exchange. NEW LAND FOR SETTLEMENT. The board spent much time approving of the plans of several large blocks of land throughout the province, which will shortly be placed on the market for selection All the necessary formalities were completed and due notice will be given of the dates and places of the ballots and sales. The land concerned aggregates about 50,000 asres. CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES. Certfiicates were granted to the following lessees who are entitled to a Crown grant of the land purchased: —The Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Ltd., Hamilton, section 14, block 3, Ohura; W. H. Gibson, section 5, block 6, Upper Waitara; T. A. Bradley, section 629, block 1, Mahoe. Licenses were issued to the following holders of improved farm settlements: A. C. Hughes, section 3; R. L. Henderßon, section 14; John Coombridge, section 5; T. Hall, section 8; J. J. Kenny, section 21—all of block 11, Mapara; R. Wigg, section 8, and D. Mcßeth, section 11, both of block, Tangitu. RANGER'S REPORT. Crown Lands Ranger Twiss reported having inspected lands held by sixteen selectors comprising a total area of 6622 acres. The amount of improvements required to be effected waa £3IOB, and the improvements done were valued at £6Bss.—There being no defaulters, the report was adopted. GENERAL. The renewal of the sublease of section 25, block 4, Ngatimaru, from E. M. Prideau to'J. H. Robson was approved.
The sublease of section 1, block 13, Huiroa, from Alexander Brown to W.
Cochran was approved. A. L. Bremer applied to secure part section 3, block 9, Opaku, for cash, instead of 0 R.P. as originally in tended, and the revised application was approved. .£•>' In view of an application for the purchase of a piece of closed road on the northern boundary of section 510, Grey district, it was decided to ask the adjoining holders to tender for the purchase of the land.
It was decided to offer section 7, block 15, Ohura, for lease by public auction at an upset rental of 12a 6d per annum.
The Mangaroa School Committee wrote asking that the board should reconsider its decision in refusing to grant additional land south of the acre already granted, but the board resolved to adhere to its former decision. Messrs Nair and Lord asked that they we given permission to effect all the improvements required on sections 4 and 5, block 15, Omona, on section 5. —The board agreed to the proposal, subject to certain conditions. The leases of subsections 1 and 4, section 189, Patea district, will be offered at auction at an upset captial value of £3OO and £246 respectively. The amended proposals of the Hawera County Council for the expenditure of thirds amounting to £27 8s 9d were approved. The conditional approval for the expenditure of £449 6s lOd by the Waitomo County Council, subject to the work specified being found for the benefit of the sections concerned, was granted. The board approved of the reservation of 3 acres to section 29, block 1, Tangitu, held by W. H. Collett, for a school site.
The disbursements of £IBB 7s 6d received for improvements on section 15, block 9, Mapara, and £62 15s received from section 3, block 13, Mapara, were agreed to. A tenant on the New Plymouth Town Belt will receive notice to clear the land of noxious weeds, otherwise the lease will be cancelled. An old offender on the Oakura Town Belt, who has been warned, will receive notice of the cancellation of his lease.
It was reported that T. W. Moorby, selector of section 8, block 16, Pouatu, had permitted it to be occupied and worked by W. H. Best, the board having refused a transfer to Best already —The board decided to call on Moorby to show cause why his interest should not be forfeited for contravention of clause 50 of "The Land Act, 1908."
