POLICE PROMOTIONS.

The follownig police constables, have been promoted to the rank of sergeants, subject to their passing the medical test, and will be transferred to the stations named : Donald McKenzie, of Lower Hutt, to Dunedin; Andrew McDonnell, of Aratapu, to Newton Auckland); L. E .O'Halioran, of Woodville, to Wellington; V. R. Taylor, of Palmerston North, to Dunedin; P. Cassidy, of Rakaia, to Christchurch; J. A. Mathew, of Te Kuiti, to Auckland. Commissioner Cullen states that these promotions, which are the reward for efficiency and long service, are to be the last under the old system. After March Ist police officers will qualify by examination for advancement in rank.
Of thoße whose promotions have already been announced, Senior-Ser-geant Dart goes from Timaru to Auckland; Senior-Sergeant Matbieson, now on relievi-ip duty in Auckland, goes to Cbristchurch; SubInspector McKinnon goes from Auckland to Christchurch.
