Newton King reports: — At Stratford on Tuesday there was a good yarding and attendance. Weaners, bulls and store cows met with good competition, but enquiry for other classes was not quite as keen as usual. Mixed weaners made 20s to 35a 6d, wean o r heifers, coloured 48s, store cows £2 9s to £3 15s. forward cows £4 to £4 17s 6d, fat cows £5 5s to £6 17s 6d, bulls £3 14s to £7 10s, 20 months to two year heifers £3 14s 6d to £3 18s 6d, yearling steers 34b 6d to 555. At Stony River on 7th inßt., I held my combined cattle sale and weaner fair, when the yards were very full. There was a large attendance and competition was good for all classes, near'y everything being quitted at «he hammer at excellent prices. Quotations:—Mixed weaners 28s to 395, weaner steers 23s to 335, weaner heifers 21s to 33s 6d, heifers, coloured 51s to 61s, eighteen to twenty months steers £3 lis to £3 16s 6d, heifers £3 6s, store cows £2 15s to £3 3s, forward cows £3 is to £4 lis, fat cows £5 to £5 9a 6d, bulla £3 7s 6d to £6 ss, two tooth ewes 15s 3d, forward wethers 15s lid, f.m. ewes lis Bd. The Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering Ltd., Co., report*—■ At Waihou on 7th inst., we had an entry of 87 pigs, 684 shaep and 764 head of cattle. There was a much better demand than at the previous sale, and nearly everything was sold. Fat cattlß were short of requirements and advanced 10s to 15s per head. Calves also made up to 10s above last sales rates Fat pig? made 35s 6d, weaner pigs 9s to 14s, slips 15s 6d to 20s, fat wethers 16s to 17s 6d. fat ewes 12s 3d to 13s 3d, fat lambs 12s to 13s, two tooth ewes 15s, store lambs 7a to 7s 6d, extra good calves 50s, good calves 35s to 423, fair calves 28s to 335. fat steers £8 10s to £8 17s 6d, fat cows £5 10s to £7, forward cows £4 10s to £5 3s, forward three and a half steers £7, store three year steers £5 10s to £6, fifteen month steers £3 ss. same age heifers £2 17s to £3 3s heavy bull 3 £6 10s to £9 2s 6d, store bulls £4 10s to £ls. HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLEGRAM. Wellington, Monday. The High Commissioner's cablegram, under date London February Bth, is aa follows: — Mutton.—The market is quiet, but holders are firm on account of uncertainty regarding the butcher's strike.. Canterbury 4fd, North Island 4|d. Lamb.—Th.-re is good demand for prime quality, and the market is firm. Canterbury this season's 7d. other than Canterbury 6Jd. Beef.—There has been no alteration in the market since last week. New Zealand fores 3§d, hinds 3§d. Butter.—The market is firmer, but prospects are uncertain. Choicest New Zealand 116s, Australian 109s, Argentine 108s, Danish 129s,'Siberian 110s Cheese. —The market is firm, with more inquiry. The average price for the week for finest New Zealand cheese is 60s 6d. Hemp. The market is quiet. Speculators only are in the market Spot New Zealand good fair grade £35, fair grade £3l 10s, fair current Manila £33 10s, forward shipment of New Zealand good fair grade £34 10s, fair grade £32, fair current Manila £34 10a. Wool.—The market remains firm. Hops.—The market prospects are favourable, with much better demand.
