When the chairman met the chiei Kharsholder, he explained what had lecti done.

Higgins is the secretary ; I am to act as treasurer and chief cashier ; while Spriggs " The chief shareholder gasped. "Spriggs ! What on earth can hi do ? Why, Spriggs is so deaf that he can't hear thunder. What post Lavs you given him ?" "I think you will agree," returned the chairman and chief cashier stiffly, "that the directors understand their business thoroughly. Mr Spriggs will attend each day anc hear ell complaints from passengers.''
