On January 24th for my annual Kaponga weaner fair and cattle sale 1 had a very big entry and a Dig attenddance of buyors. Moat of the waaners yarded were small being whey fed, but were all good coloured cattle. Bidding throughout tfas keen, excep tionally so on a line of picked Jersey heifers yarded by Mr Martin Stiener. Thes°' were started at 45s and were secured by Mr G. Crowley after brisk competition at £3 Is 6d. The demand for good forward cows and bulls was first class, everything with the excepting oc a pen of small weaner steers was cleared at the following rates: — Jersey weaner heifers £2 9s to £3 Is 6d, grade heiferß 31s 6d to 37s 6d, small 24a 6d, weaner steers to 365, mixed weaners 28s 6d to 32s d 6, bulls £3 9s to £6 according to weight, fat working bullocks £5 Is, fat heifers £5 4s, fat cows £5 10s to £6 4s. forward cows from £4 14s to £5 3s. store cows £3 15s 6<i to £4 ss, small or aged £1 4s fid to £2 10s, lambs 93. At Urenui on January 27th there was only a small entry which sold as follows: Springing heifers £4 7a 6d to £8 10s., dairy cows £6 to £8 10s, fat cows £6 Is, forward cows £4 lis 6d to £5 4s, twenty months heifers £3 16s to £4 7s 6d, two and a half year heifers in calf £4 13s to £5 17s 6dj twenty months steers £3 14s to £3 16a 6d. ! On January 28th store cows sold at j£2 lis to £3 17s, 6d, forward cows £4 5a to £5 3s, two and a half year steers, small £4 7a 6d. eighteen months heifers £3 10s, bulls £5 13s to £6 15s. HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLE. Wellington, Monday. The High Comissioner's cable, dated London, February Ist, is as follows: Mutton. Market remains firm, there being a scarcity of prime quality. North Island 4&d, Canterbury not quoted; Australian 4d, River Plate 4|d. Lamb.—The market is firm, with good demand for all sorts. Canterbury lambs this season is realising 7Jd, other than Canterbury 6fd. Beef.—The market is quiet but steady, the supply being plentiful. New Zealand hindquarters 3§d, fores 3Jd. Butter. —The market is dull, except for best quality. The average price for the week for choicest New Zealand butter was 113s. Australian 107 a, Argentine 105s, Danish 1275, Siberia 109s. Cheese.—The market is quiet, but holders are firm, and the demand is getting better. The average price for the week for the finest New Zealand cheese was 60s 6d pur cwt. Hemp.—The market is firm, owing to speculative demand. Spot New Zealand, good fair grade £34, fair grade £32 Is, forward shipment aDout the same price; fair current Manila on spot £34, forward shipment £35 10s. The output from Manila for the week was 20,000 bales. Wool.—The market is strong, and all stocks are advancing. The Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering Co., Ltd., report: At Te Kuiti on January 29th, we had an entry of 1029 cattle and 1728 sheep. All classes of stock were required and nearly everything sold under the nammer, prices being fully up to those ruling at Waikato sales. We quote :—Fresh conditioned three and three and a half year steers £6 12s to £7 ss, three year steers £6, two and a half year steers £4 18s to £5 ss, two year steers £4 10s, eighteen month steers £3 15s to £4 2s, two year heifers in calf £4 2s 6d to £4 10s, eighteen months heifers £3 10s to £3 18s, fat cows £5 5s to £5 15s, forward cows £4 4s to £4 15s, store cows £3 10s, springing heifers £5 10s, bulls £4 10s to £6 10s, fat and forward four and six tooth wethers 15s 8d to 16s 9d, two tooth wethers in good condition 14s, store two tooth Wethers lln 2d, good framed full mouth ewes lis to 12s 2d, aged ewes 6s 9d to 8s Id. forward lambs 9s 8d to 10s 2d, cull lambs 6s, store lambs 7s 9d. AUCKLAND WOOL SALES. At the Auckland wool sales which concluded on Friday over 10,000 bales were offered. Prices for lambs' wool and coarse breds were slightly above the opening sales, but finer crossbreds were somewhat weaker. American buyers were the reverse of keen. Half-bred merino made 9d to Hid, three-quarter-breds B£d to IOJd, coarse crossbred 9d to lOd, >ambs' wool, very seedy, 6d to Hid.
