AMERICAN WOOL TARIFF.
PEOPLE'S HEAVY BURDEN. TOTAL OF 128 PER CENT. By Telegraph.—Pr*ss Association.—Copyright Washington, Thursday. The opponents of the preßent wool tariff point out that the country is actually taxed to the extent of 8s 9d per head of the population yearly to maintain the wool industry in its present state of prosperity. The present combined ad valorem and specific duties, according to Democratic contentions equal 128 per cent.—a figure that i 9 regarded aB wholly unnecessary. The Democratics hope to reduce the tariff to approximately a r«venue basis only.
