At the Political Labour League Conference, Mr McGowan was invited to explain why the Government had passed the Act assisting the Broken Hill Proprietory to establish iron and steel works at Newcastle. The explanation was considered unsatisfactory to the conference, and a vote of censure was carried by 104 voteß to 42.
