DUNEDIN WOOL SALES. PRICES WELL, MAINTAINED. Dunedhv Wednesday. The second wool sale was held at the Art Gallery Hall this morning. The offerings totalled 27,862 bales—a record for New Zealand. The sale opened spiritedly in the presence of a huge crowd, anct prices throughout the morning were well up to those of the December sales, except for pieces and wool suitable for America, which was easier. Some clips had deteriorated in value owing to the presence of seed, and for thia reason, and also owing to a number of the best lots being tender, American buyers did not compete heavily. The condition of the wool generally was excellent, though some clips bore evidence of the fact that sheep had been short of feed for some time, the wool being not so long and well groomed as usual. Merinoß ruled from l-7d to id better than at the December, and (in the forenoon) about the same degree better all round than at the Invercargill sales. The top price at the first sale (Donald Reid was 14d for 40 bales first combings quarterbreds from Rocklands clip, which until this year had been sent Home. Crossbreds, which were keenly competed for by Bradford buyers, realised 12d. Local mills secured the best lots of super halfbreds.
