ARNST CHALLENGES BARRY.
jßy Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright Sydney, Thursday. It is announced that Dick Arnst has deposited £IOO with the Sydney Sun, and has challenged Barry to row this year for the world's championship and £SOO a aide. Arnst claims that Pearce s challenge to Barry has lapsed owing to the articles not being signed within three months after the lodging of the deposit. Pearce, Arnst also states, did not renew the challenge after the expiration of three monthß. Arnst, therefore, demands the first race with Barry. Arnst is willing to meet Pearce for £SOO or less a side in twelve weeks. Pearce could meet Barry in October or let Arnst go if he wins. Arnst's backer offers Pearce £IOO towards his expenses if he beats Arnßt. Pearce is emphatic in his determination to go to England on February 25th, and states that he will not row anyone in the meantime. BARRY WILLING TO ROW ARNST IN SEPTEMBER. Sydney, Friday. Barry cables that Pearce's challenge has not lapsed, and articles will be signed immediately Pearce arrives. This will be observing the same procedure as the last races with Arnst and Durnan. If he beats Pearce he says he will willing to meet Arnst in- September, but the race mujst be rowed in England. There is>a possibility of Barry retiring before the end of the year.
