BOROUGH CRUSHING PLANT.
UNSUITABLE FOR WOR&. ■ "TEAPOT OP A MACHINE."
the question «if the stone crushing plant installed at Te Kuiti came up for discussion at the BoroUgh Council meeting on Monday evening. The Mayor explained that owing to the amount of metal that was being turned out not being up to the amount anticipated, a number of councillors had paid a visit of inspection to the quarry with a view to arriving at a decision as to what was to be done.in the matter. It was obvious that the machine was unsuitab'e for crushing the class of stone we had to deal with, and instead of eighty yards a day turned out the amount did not come within 50. per cent, of that total. The councillors bad agreed that a new plant was necessary and the engineer had been instructed to obtain particulars with a view to securing a suitable plant as soon as th« money was available. Cr Julian said they should be careful about the crusher they obtained. He suggested that Cr Walsh could assist them in obtaining the most suitable plant. Cr Walsh said he had found the rotary mill the most suitable. Be would be glad to show.the mills at work to those councillors who cared to see them. Cr Falwasser said he possessed no SDecial knowledge of crushers but the present crusher appeared to him a teapot of a machine. The work of tJTe borough was being held up owing to the inability to get metal and the sooner a suitable plant was obtained the better. Cr Lusk said the present machine, although not suitable for the stone they had to use, was quite a gooci machine for other work, Cr Somerville said he did not know much about crushers, but the fact remained that they were not getting sufficient metal from the present plant. Tha engineer was expected to metal the roads and this could not be done if the metal was not being produced. They had a roller which could roll 80yds a day, and he thought they should get a plant capable of producing 80yds a day. This would make the equipment adequate. The present quarry was nearly worked out, and instead of shifting the present plant to the new quarry it was desirable to instal a suitable new crusher in the new quarry if the new machine could be obtained. He moved that-the Works Committee and Finance Committee' go into the matter of ways, a>.d means for the provision of a hew plant. The motion was seconded by Cr Falwasser and carried.
