BACKBLOCK MEDICAL FACILITIES.

The Pio Pio Medical Association is to be congratulated upon the success of its efforts in obtaining the services of a ductor for the large and important district of which Pio Pio is the centre. It has long been recognised that the district, which may be described as the hinterland of Te Kuiti was badly served in the matter of medical facilities, and that the progress of the district was being retarded in consequence. A heavy toll haß b«.en exacted from our pioneers in consequence of such coditions in the past, and any action which will serve to ameliorate those conditions is worthy of the utmost commendation and supDort. The ready Bupport tendered to the movement by the various bodies interested is a wel • come indication of practical sympathy with an entirely deserving cause. The Congregational Union, by working disinterestedly and harmoniously with the settlerß, has rendered considerable service to the die--trict, and the Hospital Board is to be/" commended for the assistance granted towards the scheme.
