The Hon. L. P. Pelletier, Post master-General in the Canadian Cabinet, replied to Sir Wilfrid Laurier'a criticism of the Borden naval scheme, taunting him that he was not so anxious to aid Britain when he had he power. \i there Were a real trial of strength in British waters, where then would be the value of the Canadian squadron if it were in Canadian waters? He looked upon it as absurd to say that Canada could man and own a fleet, when she was not at present able to man one cruiser. All the crews of the Rainbow and Niobe had been brought from Britain. Mr Pelletier said that Sir Wilfrid Laurier was only parading his generosity, knowing that there was no likelihood of his being asked to give effect to it.
