BOROUGH LOAN PROPOSALS.

The result of the poll in connection with the loan proposals for Te Kuiti is a clear manifestation that the

ratepayers are alive to the necessity of carrying on the work of improving the town. The total of votes recorded was disappointingly small, but this is no unusual circumstance in municipal affairs where the ratepayers are content to allow those who will to undertake the responsibility. The fact that; by the time it will be possible to raise the proposed loan there will probably be a new council in oihee no doubt inlluonceu the voting., as the opinion is held by a section of the community that tho new council should undertake its own financial work. This aspect of the question is hadly worth serious consideration. The proposals have been thoroughly discussed and have been endorsed by the public and there can be nothing guir.ed by delaying negotiations until a new council is elected. It is to be sincerely hoped the efforts of the council in connection with the financial operations will be successful, for upon the result of such operations the possibility of carrying out a progressive public policy depends.
