Newton King reports: — On 10th inst. had a fair yarding in my Stratford yards with a fairly representative attendance of buyers. Owing to shearing operations in the back country not many attended from those parts. Bidding opened very slowly, but improved considerably during the sale and, with a few exceptions, a very good clearance as made. A big number of bulls were yarded and sold very readily. Store and forward cows met with very keen competition. Very few springers were yarded. Prices realised were as follows:—Bulls £2 14s 6d tq £6 10s, according to weight and quality, fifteen months heifers £3 5s to £3 16s, small store cows £2 5s to £3 4s, forward cows £3 19s to £5 Is. fat cows £5 5s to £6, empty two and a half year coloured heifers £5 lis, grades £3 19s 6d to £4 5s 6d, two and a half year steers, good £5, Jerseys £3 12s, springing heifers £5 10s to £5 17s 6d, fat and forward wethers 15s 9d.
At Stony River on 11th inst., I had a small entry with a good attendance. Competition was not brisk, but most of the lines were cleared as follows: —Fifteen months steers £2 15s to £3 2s, small and bad coloured 27s 6d to 42s 6d, fifteen months grade Jersey heifers £3 15 to £4 3s, grades £2 10s to £3, two year empty heifers £4 to £4 ss, fat cows £5 4s to £5 12s, forward cows £3 19s 6d to £4 l ? s 6d, small cows £2 17s 6d to £3 9s, bulls £2 17s to £6, cows and calves £4 5s 6d, springing heifers £4 5s to £5 12s 6d, springing cows up to £7 12s 6d.
The Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering Co , Ltd., report:— At Te Kuiti, on 11th inst , we had an entry of 1564 head of cattle and 633 sheep. There were buyers for all the cattle, and only a few pens remained unsold. Sheep were lower iu price than at late sales. Fresh three and a half year steers sold at up to £7 Is, store three to three and a half year steers £6 to £6 10s, two and a half year steers £5 to £5 10s, two year steers £4 7a 6d to £4 15s, eighteen months steers £3 15s to £4 4s, yearling to fifteen months steers £3 5s to 3 £l2s. two year heifers £4 5s to £4 15s, fifteen months heifers £3 5s to £3 Bs, fat cows £5 5s to £6 10s, store cows £3 12s 6d to £3 17s 6d, four tooth forward wethers 15s, two tooth wethers 12s lid, aged ewes with lambs, lambs given in, 13s 3d, cull two tooth sheep 7s 6d to 9s. At Ohaupo, on December 10th, we had an entry of 963 head nf cattle, and 2116 sheep, The forward bullocks were particularly choice, and all sold, although ruling about a couple of weeks ago. Younger cattle were also lower in value, and a number of pens remained unsold. The sheep consisted chiefly of two and four tooth wethers from Opotiki, but only 500 of these were sold, the balance are held for private sale. Forward three and a half year steers made £6 15s to £8 9s, store three year steers £5 17s to £6 16s, two and a half year steers £4 15s to £5 3s, two year steers £4 3s to £4 10s, yearling steers £3 7s 6d to £3 15s, two year heifers £3 17s 6d to £4 16s, two year Holtsein heifers £5 10s, twelve to eighteen months Jersey cross heifers £3 5s to £4 2s 6d, fresh cows £3 17s 6d to £4 ss, weaner calves 25s to 28s, one pen of extra choice £2 3s, fat to tooth wethers 15s lid, fat and forward aged ewes lis, store two tooth wethers 12a lOd, store four tooth wethers 15s 6d.
