JAPANESE STEAMER HELD UP.

By Telegraph.—Press Association.—Conyrigat Received December 17, 9.25 p.m. Newcastle, Tuesday.

The Japanese tramp steamer Hakashika Maru arrived this morning from Sydney en route for New Zealand laden with timber and general cargo. While preparing to load hardwood for New Zealand in intimation was received from the New Zeaalnd Seamen'fi Union to the effect that it would refuse to handle the cargo owing to the ship possessing an Asiatic crew. The leading therefore stopped.
