OTOROHANGA.
Own Correspondent. The Otorohanga Debating Society Wound up their season with a debate in the Public Hall on Thursday night. Mr Elliott and party advocated the introduction of licensed houses into the King Country, and Mr Cox and party argued against the introduction. The debate was one of the best that has Deen held here and a great deal of interest was shown by the public. Mr C. K. Wilson, M.P., is to officially open the Christmas trea in aid of the Presbyterian Church at 2 o'clock next Saturday. The affair promises to be very successful, and in addition to the usual entertainments and novelties the committee have been promised a sheep and other animals for weight-guessing. A public meeting was called for Monday evening to arrange for the holding of the district children's picnic. There has been a public picnic held each year for a number of years now, and they have been the means of bringing large numbers of people together and affording a good outing for your.g and old. There was a very poor attendance, and owing to the lack of interest being shown, there is every possibility of the picnic being allowed to lapse this year. The meeting was adjourned until next Monday evening, when, if there is not more interest shown in the picnic it will be proposed to hand over the funds iri hand from previous picnics to some other body. This would be very unfortunate as the funds were obtained by collecting subscriptions from the public for the children's pinnies.
