It is rumoured in Wellington that the Slaughterman's Union intends to cancel its registration under the Arbitration Act, ami seek lor new conditions with the employ em. At present the rate paid for slaughtonng sheep is 25b per 1(H). It, in understood t,ho men intend asking for '!os. Something more definite will bo known next week. "A SERIOUS OUTLOOK." Masterton, Monday. In an interview with a reporter tonight relative to the threatend cessation of work by slaughterman, Mr J. C. Cooper, managing director of the Wellington Farmers' Meat Company, said the outlook was rather serioua. The men had made demands in tho South Island, and a conference had been held which had proved abortive. Mr Cooper does not think there will be an immediate strike, but ho believes that by tho cancellation of registration the men intend ceasing work when tho awards expire in January next. This will bo at the height of tho sux.-ion, and an immense injury will be occasioned.
