POSITION AT CHATALDJA.

SKIRMISHING PROCEEDING. A PESSIMISTIC REPORT. Constantinople, Monday. Skirmishing is still continuous at Chatladja. The Turks lost 700 men last week, mostly from shrapnell wounds. The torpedoing of the warship Hamidieh has proved a severe handicap, the fire of the other warships being ineffective in stopping the Bulgarian advance. The Messudieh is re* placing the Hamidieh. Ten thousand reservists are preparing to occupy the second positions between Chataldja and Stamboul. The Turks have reinforced Gallipoli, anticipating an attack on the Dardanelles. The correspondents report large arrivals of troops at Chatalda from Syria. Many heavy fortress guns have been sent from the Dardanelles. The respite since the battle of Lule Burgas has enabled the troops to recover their morale. Faud Pasha has presented a pessimistic report to the Government upon the state of the army. The resistance at Chatalda, he says, is likely to be short-lived. If the Bulgarians force the lines, the fate of the capital, the report adds, is sealed. POSITION OF ALBANIA. Rome, Monday. Austria has informed Italy that she adheres to the agreement made in 1907 pledging herself not to attempt to expand towards Albania, and supporting the status quo or Albania autonomy. Austria, it is added, is resolved to fight rather than give way.
