MAROKOPA.

Own Correspondent. The Marokopa shipping syndicate's auxiliary ketch Dawn, which has been undergoing extensive repairs in Auckland, is now on her way to take up her run in the trade. The vessel is engaged at present in taking a cargo of explosives for the Public Works Department to JSlew Plymouth. On discharge of her cargo at the New Plymouth breakwater, she will proceed to Waitara and Joad for Marokopa. Messrs Bell Bros, took their sailing dinghy around to Kawhia on Tuesday of last week, where she will be in readiness for the sailing competitions of her class during the yachitng season. Bell Bros, took thfi frail craft over the Marokopa bar without any mishap, and gave a fair exhibition of their pluck and seamanship. They were accompanied by Mr J. Forbes, who was on his way to Kawhia to bring home his own launch, where it had been awaiting favourable weather for the trip. The party arrived in Kawhia about midday and left again at six o'clock that evening with Mr Forbes' launch, which safely negotiated the bar at 10 p.m. This new launch makes the third on the Marokopa river, and will be a decided improvement to the local fleet. It is understood that another enterprising settler's son is going to purchase a launch at an early date. The fine waterway is certainly very encouraging for such enterprise, not only from a pleasure point of view, but as well as for the transport of goods. Shearing has commenced, but owing to the broken weather the progress has been considerably retarded. Owing to the great majority of settlers being unable to burn last season, the increase of output of wool from the district will be only slightly over that of last year.
