KING COUNTRY DAIRYING.

THE MAROKOPA DISTRICT. Own Correspondent. It is only a couple of years ago since the matter of dairying in the Marokopa district was decided on by the optimistic few. The pessimist was then very much in evidence but despite all the proclamations of cautiousness and the time not being ripe, the project was proceeded with, and much to the cradit of the few has succeeded, and there is an excellent future in the distance. Last year was the first sea°on of the company's working and the results are well known The start this season has exceeded all anticipations, and settlers are beginning to recognise that the dairy industry in the district is established and come to stay, and that if they are to be in the race at all, it will be butterfat that is necessary to oil the machinery to carry them to their desired end. Tenpence per lb is the price being paid for butterfat this season, and is not to be cavilled at when the price of land is taken into consideration. You will hear it said that a shilling per lb is being paid in Taranaki and the Waikato. but then those who make such statements forget that these districts are older, possess better facilities, and higher priced land —very much higher. The factory again opened this year in the middle of October, 72011b of cream being received up till the end of the month producing 2800lbs of butterfat in comparison to 6810lbs or cream producing 2250!bs of butterfat. Up to this date there was one supplier more than at the height of laßt season. The figures quoted are by no means an indication of the real increase that is taking place this month, and there is little doubt that when the present month's returns are compiled that the increase over the corresponding period of last year will be considerable, and will be a fair indication of what the season's output will be. Favourable treament by the elements will, no doubt, be responsible for a good season.
