Newton King reports: — At Stratford on Tuesday, 12th inst , I had a very heavy entry of all classes, about 1500, and a good attendance of the public. Five very good pens of two an.l four year bullocks, in forward condition, were yarded, and attracted considerable attention. These were all cleared during the day at £7 ss, yearling heifers and steers were penned in very big numbers, but were not inquired for, very few being cleared. Competition for empty heifers and good cows was very keen. A big number of bulls were yarded, those available for dairy purposes realised from £4 2s 6d to £6 ss, the balance being bought for the works at prices ranging according to weight from £2l 5s to £5 17s 6d. Several lines of two and a half and three year steers were disposed of at from £5 14s to £5 17s 6d, two year steers t £4 14s, other prices realised were:—Jersey fifteen months heifers £4 Is to £4 12s, grades £2 19s to £3 Ib, small £2 lis to £2 14s, fifteen months steers from £3 Is to £3 13s for a few big Shorthorns, small fat cows £6. empty two year Jersey-Holstein heifers £5 4s to £5 9s 6d, and for mixed grades from £4 2s 6d to £4 15s, forward cows £4 12s to £5 6s, good stores £3 9s to £4 ss, aged or small £1 17s to £2 15s. At Stony River on the 12th inst. I had a fair entry of cattle ana a good number of buyers who bought practically everything in the yards at the following rates: —fifteen month Jersey Holstein heifers from £4 2s 6d to £4 15s, smaller £3 lids 6d to £3 19s, grades £2 Is to £3 7s 6d, fifteen months steers £2 19s 6d to £3 2s, dairy bulls £5 Ss 6d to £7 2s 6d, others from 22s 6d to £4 7s, two year steers £4 8s 6d to £4 _ 9s, empty two year Ho'atein heifers £6, grades £4 4s 6d to £4 10s, fat cows £6 Is, aged store cows £2 2s fid to £z 10s, good stores £3 17s to £4 15s, empty Holstein cows £5 6s, springing heifers, best up to £6 Is, small £4 to £5, slip pigs for breeding 27s to 375, others 14s to 21s.

Beef. —The market is quiet, but rather steadier. New Zealand hindquarters .Sid, fores 2fd. Butter.—The market is quiet, with a tendency in favour of buyers. Buyers are holding back, expecting prices to go lower. The Turakina's shipment arrived in good condition, and is realising 116s to 120s per cwt.; Australian 113s, Argentine 113s, Danish 128s, Siberian 109s. Cheese. —The market is quiet, but steady. The Turakina's shipment arrived in good condition, and is realising 61s and 635. Hemp. —The market is quieter, buyers being cautious on account of high prices. Spot—New Zealand fair good grade £34, fair £-32 10s, fair current Manila £35; forward shipment of New Zealand good fair £34 ss, fair £33, fair current Manila £35. The output from Manila for the week was 20,000 bales. Wool.—The market is firm, and more inquiry. Current quotations for Bradford tops are:—36's low crossbreds 14£ d, 40's low crossbreds 15d, 44's medium crosbsreds 16d, 50's halfbreds 19id, 56' a quarterbreds 22d, 60's merinos 27d.
