PARAHEKA VALLEY.

Own Correspondent. Nothing of a very startling nature has taken place in this part of th° King Country lately. except the. weather, which has had a relapse. but, of course, there is always the usual grumblers, no matter what the weather is like, and despite the continuous rains, the grass seems to grow in abundance everywhere, and stock is looking well in genera!. A considerable area of bush is coming down in the district this season, mostly all those who failed to get, a burn last year are having pieces cut round the old fellng to give the lire a good start. In some cases the second growth has come very strongly on the unburnt bush, and this is sure to affect the burns. English church service was held in Mr VV. Keighley's house last week, and considering the state of the roads, a fair number turned out. A few of the energetic settlers are endeavouring to have the telephone laid on in the valley this year. It is to be hoped they will bo successful in their efforts, as it will be a good thing for the district, especially in cases of sickness. Shearing operations will soon commence now. 1 know some of the farmers are anxiously waiting for the weather to come back to its normal state in order to make a start.
