PRESENTATION TO MISS MELLING.

APPRECIATION OF SERVICE. During the early days of Te Kuiti the postal business of Hip town was conducted by Miss Lilian 11. Mell-' ing. whose connection with the local* post oiTice extended over :» period of about ten years. When the town developed into a busy centre it became necessary to enlarge the staff very considerably and appoint a postmaster in charge. Some months ago Miss Moiling was removed to Auckland as relieving postmistress, and as her appointment took oflect at short notice, there was little timeto arrange to give practical manifestation to the esteem in which Miss Melling was held by the public generally. However, a committee was appointed and a testimonial was arranged for presentation. It was intended that the presentation should take place at To Kuiti, but as Miss Melling's duties necessitated her remaining in Auckland for some time, Major Lusk took advantage of a visit to Auckland to make the presentation on behalf of the subscribers. The testimonial, which consisted of an illuminated address and purse of sovereigns, was presented to Miss Moiling on Thursday of last week in the Chief Postmaster's room at Auckland. Miss Moiling, in reply requested that her feeling of gratitude at the kindly remembrance of old friends should be conveyed to the people of Te Kuiti.
