PUKETUTU TRAIN FATALITY.

THE INQUEST,

An inquest on the body of Wm. E. Kinman, the driver who was killed on the balast train near Puketutu on Saturday morning, was held in the commercial room of the Hotel Grande, on Saturday afternoon. Mr J. Tammadge, J.P., acted as deputy-coroner, and the following jury was empannelled: —Messrs Garmonsway, Holland, Cashel and Cook. Evidence was given by J. Barnes, fireman, who said he first Baw deceased's hat and then saw deceased in the air between the cab of the engine and the truss of the bridge. Witness immediately pulled up the engine and he and the guard looked for the body. After searching for some minutes they found it fin a reclining position under the bridjge. Life was extinct. He thoueht deceased must have slipped in order to get] struck by the side of the bridge. 1

C. C. Moore, guard on the train, said he saw deceased fall from the engine. Witness! was of opinion that deceased was jlooking out to see if everything was; running right, and got struck by a bolf of a bridge girder, which knocked «im out of tne cab o£ the engine, and on to an ironbark sleeper, which caused his death. A verdict of accidental death in accordance with the evidence was returned, no bli »me bein g attachable to anybody.
