OPENING OF FISHING SEASON.
Trout fishing season which opened on Friday last, promises good sport to he lovers of the rod and line. Already fair baskets are reported from various sources, the best so far being that of Mr J. Hetet, junr., who landed thirteen nice fish nn opening day from the Mangaokewa stream. Mesrs Moorhouse and Mora, of Te Kuiti, journeyed to Waimiha for the week-end, and secured half-a-dozen nice fish. They state there is rather much water in the river yet, and predict that in a few weeks the sport will be better. A party from Mangapehi also spent he week-end at Waimiha and had a fair amount of success. With a view to providing better accommodation for travellers and sportsmen, at Waimiha Mr Hogg is erecting a large boarding house. Hitherto it has been somewhat difficult to secure quarters in the locality, and with the opening up of the Tangitu district, of which Waimiha is the railway centre, the demand for accommodation has become much greater. The building is to be completed in a week or two, and both sportsmen and settlers will rejoice accordingly.
