MONEY NOT AVAILABLE.
SETTLERS TAKE INITIATIVE. DO THEIR OWN METALLING. An unusual application was made to the County Council on Monday evening, when Cr Berry, on behalf of the Waiteti settlers, applied to have an approach made to the Waiteti stream in order that the settlers could get access to the gravel for the purpose of metalling the road. Cr Berry said the settlers had applied for a loan, and had been unable to obtain it as the money was not available. They had also applied for a vote on the road and nothing had been granted. They had now decided to put on their own teams.and do the metalling themselves as far as they could. If the council would expend a small amount in putting in a small bridge and culvert it would greatly assist them. The work would be properly carried out under the supervision of the engineer. Needless to say the application was granted by the Council.
