OTOROHANGA.

HOCKEY SOCIAL. Own Correspondent. Seldom has our hall had such a happy crowd assembled in it as appeared last on Wednesday last, everyone being full of life and intent on enjoying themselves thoroughly. The hall was beautifully decorated with the colours of the club and a good assortment of greenery, ferns, etc., gave the place quite an Arcadian aspect. Messrs Bride, Hawkins, Tingay and McCuough and their friends deserve a all credit for the gay appearance which the hall presented, and they did valiant work to make this function a success. The ladies, of course, muse not be neglected for, no doubt, their good taste helped to make the effect produced. The music was supplied by a local orchestra and gave pleasure to the dancers who said the time was excellent. Refreshments were supplied by Mr Barratt and Miss Corhan the confectionery and fruit being of the very best. The floor was in first-class condition, a new powder being presented by Mr Pearson, who also kindly lent a set of lamps, which greatly improved the appearance of the hall. As this is the first social the local hockey club have organised, it must be very flattering to them to know that their guests speak with such appreciation of the splendid entertainment provided. A feature of the gathering was the attractive gowns worn by the ladies and the con trast of colours made the hall look much better than noticed on any previous occasion. Dancing was kept up till about 2.30 a.m., when the friends of the club wended their way home, unfortunately in the rain, but ono and all were satisfied with their evening's pleasure.
