At yesterday afternoon's Hitting of the Public Accounts Committee inquiry, Sir Joseph Ward, on oath, was asked by the Hon. .1. Allen as to what amounts could be obtained from the Consolidated Fund, Sir Joseph Ward insisted on replying in reference to funds available at the end of the financial year. Mr liine asked witness to answer the question put or refuse to answer it. Sir Joseph Ward: It; is my business how I answer You shall riot dictate to me. It is a downright piece of imnertinence.

The Hon. J. Allen moved that the words "downright piece of impertinence" be taken down.

Mr llin9 put this motion to the committee and declared it carried. Sir J. Ward retorted: Very well, then; I will retire from the committee; you can do what you like. 1 am not going to stay on a committee that does this sort of thing at the instigation of the Minister and chairman. I believe in a fair thing and 1 have acted in that way throughout, lie thereupon left the room. It was then agreed by the committee that the words "downright picee of impertinence" bo reported to the House; also that Sir Joseph Ward had refused to withdraw the words and had left the committee.
