RANCITOTO NO. 1.

Own Correspondent, This district is looking extremely well at present, and its a valuable object lesson'as to what can be done by settlers who- are possessed of a desire for progress. The land has now been in occupation for about two years, and a great portion of it has already been converted from fern and bush into grass and clover. Just at present everything is looking well and 3ome idea is to be obtained of what the land will do when it is thoroughly broken in. This season we have started to run our first supply of cream by waggon, and the district should feel the good effects of the dairying industry before long. Some of the settlers are already milking as many as seventeen cows, and all are hard at work getting in summer crops. The settlerß are glad to have got a road at last as an outlet to market, and doubtless a fair amount of cropping will now be done. Potatoes grow well in the district, and last year a return of four tons to the acre was obtained by a settler, which at present prices shows a big margin of profit. Settlers are glad to have the school which has been erected by the Education Board in place of the tent which did duty for eighteen months. There are 30 children now in attendance. Church services are held in the school once a month by the Rev. Mr Cox, and are much appreciated.
