THE COAL SUPPLY.

A SHORTAGE BOSS IB LLC. ] OWING TO LABOUR UNREST. [nv TKJ,i'<;.KAru.- - pjikss vssociation.] Auckland, Tuesday. The precipitate action taken this morning by the Huntly miners will, of course, havo an immediate eil'ect upon the avaiiablle coal Rupply. At the same time, it is a fact that many large consumers foresaw tho grave possibilities that havo been present in the coalmining industry for several months past, and the.v are in a position to be free from an.siely as to a coal famine. In view of the large re-

serve supplies on hand, it is not expected that there will be any immedi-

ate necessity for an advance in price. In many nuarters, however, I,lie effect of the complete stoppage of coal supplies from Huntly has already been felt. Some who laid in I:»rjjje stocks some months ago have been lulled into a false sense of security, and have been caught napping. It is reported that even now Newcastle coal is being sent by Auckland dealers aa far away as Karanguhakc. Supplies have been more or less scanty for several weeks, the quantities wanted not being obtainaule. It may be that in the course of a few days developments will ensue which may make it necessary for dealers to review the position, and possibly to declare an increase in price.
