LONDON WOOL SALES.
London, Saturday. The wool sales have closed at firm prices. The, rates for all sorts were the highest of the series. The quantity sold to Home buyers during the sales was 82,000 bales, to Continental buyers 48,000, to United States buyers 6000, while 7000 have been held over.
The keenest competition has been evinced throughout the sales. Merinos closed at 7 per cent, above July rates. Shafty combing often realised fancy prices, whilst fine crossbreds fully maintained the July rates, and medium and coarse advanced 10 per cent., medium and slipes from Ad to Id per lb; coarse from Id to l£d, merino lambs 5 per cent.; and crossbred from 7i to 10 per cent. The following prices have been realised for the portions of the clips named:—Redcliffe top lOd, average 10fd; Aotea top ll£d, average lOgd; Darih, Kuriheka top 13id, average 13d; Woodlands top 12d, average 10£ d; Arawa top 13d, average 1 ild; Meadowbank top 12Jd, average 12£ d; The Bradford wool market is firm, and shows a hardening tendency. The Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering Co., Ltd., report:— At Matiere on Bth inst, we had a yarding of 600 head, chiefly one and two year cattle, which were required locally, and prices were fully Tip to Waikato rates. We quote: —Four year store steers £6 10s to £6 19s, two year steers £4 12s 6d to £5. fifteen months steers £3 12s 6d to £3 16s, empty two year heifers £4 to £4 9s, fat cows £5 10s to £6, store to fresh cows £4 4s to £4 15s, springing heifers £5 10a to £6 12s 6d.
