LARGti INCOMES. The interest taken by Mr Payne in the distribution of wealth has resulted in a return to Parliament showing that, excluding all incomes under £IOOO per annum, the net incomes of persons and firms in New Zealand totals £2,393,561, while that of companies totals £4,139982. The returns show the incomes in successive steps of £3OOO, but does not indicate the number of taxpayers. Their incomes were distributed thus: Persons and firms and companies over £IOO and under £2OOO, £1,133,390 and £20,818; over £22,000 and under £IO,OOO, £1.029,305 and £220,818; over £IO,OOO and under £25,000, £230,866 and £81,592; over £25,000 and under £IO,OOO, nil and £1,514,831; over £IOO,OOO, nil and £54,892. | COST OP GENERAL ELECTION. The chief electoral officer has reportedt hat the last general election cost the State £31,807, while that of 1908 was £27.342. MOKAU JONES AGAIN. Parliament has not finished with Mokau Jones. The Prime Minister has given notice to move the appointment of a Select Committee, with power to confer with any similar Committee of the Legislative Council, and with power to agree to a joint report with such Committee, to whom shall be referred the petition of Joshua Jones of Mukau, with power to call for persons and papers, and to report to the House whether the petitioner has suffered loss of any right conferred upon him by statute or under the provisions of any deed or deeds or lease by reason of any amendment of the statute law of New Zealand, or of any matter or thing done or omitted by the Government of New Zealand, such Committee to consist of Mr Anderson, Mr Craigie, Mr Dickie, Mr Mander, and Mr Statham.
