TARANAKI LAND BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The usual monthly meeting of the Taranaki Land Board was commenced at the district office, New Plymouth 17th inat. There were present—The Commissioner of Crown Lands (Mr G. H. Bullard) in the chair, and Messrs J. Heslop, J. Eattenbury, and C. J. Ryan. Leave of absence was granted Mr J. McCluggage. B. Boult applied to transfer section 18, block 2, Ohura to B. McFaul.— Approved.
Application for Licenses. —licenses were granted as follows: J. R. Gillespie, section 2, block 8, Mapara; T. Aston, section 21, block 12, Mapara; C. Goez, junr. section 18, block 12, Mapara; T. H. Summers, section 19, block 1, Tangitu; E. S. Powell, section 33, block 1, Tangitu; J. McFall, section 6, block 12, Mapara; and W. Barlow, section 28, block 1, Tanaitu. RANGERS' REPORTS. It was reported that settlers were floating rafts of timber down the Ohura river in contravention of the Timber Floating Act, but the board resolved to take no action. The report on the proposal to subdivide section 15, block 12, Mapara, of 164 acres and add it to sections 16, 20, 10 and 11 adjoining, so as to bring them up to 200 acres or thereabouts, was approved subject to the settlers concerned being eligible.
In consequence of the deviation at the Auahi road alterations will have to be made tu sections 1 and 2, block 3, and sections 2 and 3, block 4, Totoro. The ranger's report on the proposed alterations was read, and the matter left in the commissioner's hands to deal with.
The clerk read the ranger's report on the proposed amendment to the boundary of section 21, block 11, Mapara, held by J. Kenny so as to include a small former portion of section 22.—Approved.
Ranger Twiss reported having made nine inspections of holdings, which showed that all the selectors had effected improvements in excess of requirements, and there were no defaulters for residence.
Ranger Tulme had made eight inspections. AH the settlers had complied with residence conditions, and only two were deficient in improvements. GENERAL. James Dempsey applied for right to lease section 8, block 5, Totoro, adjoining his section. —Approved. J. Barrett, Taringamutu, applied for a temporary lease of five acres at confluence of Taringamutu and Ongarue river.—Approved at £1 per annum.
A committee of settlers applied for a site on section 13, block 3, Aria, for a saleyards, but the amplication was refused on the grounds of its being a detriment to the rest oE the section to grant the request. John Gorlett, section 1, block 10, Waro, applied for exemption from the residential qualifications, to enable him to send his children to school, but the board declined the request, so as not tu interfere with the prospects of establishing a school in the neighbourhood. H. P. C. McLean made an application for the right to cut timber from sections 4 and 6, block 5, Totoro, the board declined the offer and decided to offer the land as formerly decided. The holders of a sawmill license over section 1, block 2, Piopiotea West, formerly held by A. J. Whittaker, objected to the proposed disposal of part of the land, on the ground that it would hamper them in working the bush.—The board decided not to offer any of the land. F. Cruickshank, section 2, block 4, Waro, applied for permission to fell bush on the river bank road to gain access to his section. —The board saw no objection provided he notifies the County Council. T. J. Pendray's application for a temporary lease of about twenty acres at Okahukara was approved, subject to specified conditions. The board resolved that it could not reopen the question of allowing R. Cleaver to retain his section, and the same decision was arrived at witi a similar application from W. Sangster. The Tangitu Settlers' Association applied for part of a road for a creamery site, but the board decided to notify the association that the road must not be interfered with. Mr T. Rosa' disqualification refusing him admission to future ballots was removed.
The application of the Mangaroa School Committee for an additional area for the school was deferred until next meeting.
A letter was received from Mr G. A. Humphreys-Davies in regard to wandering stock, but it was resolved to notify him that the board could not interfere in a matter between neighbours. It was decided to defer action in regard to section 25, block 1, Tangitu, held by R. Glentwnrth, until next meeting.
