The Editor

gj rj The recent liquor prosecutions' and convictions indicate that there is something "rotten in the state of Denmark" when such conditions as were detailed in court last sieek are prevalent in any community, personally, I have always been ■Lainst licenses being introduced into the King Country, but I question very much if the conditions which would obtain under the license system could be as bad as those which evidently rule at present. It is certainly high time a concerted effort was made an improvement. The form fffio-licenae which applies to this district cannot bv any stretch of imagination be considered a tribute to the local option system which provides for hotels on one side of an imaginary line and for no-license on the other. Tne sordid details which are from time to time laid bare at the local court during the hearing of liquor prosecutions are repulsive to any pornn W ith an atom of local patriotism and a remedy for the evil should be sought without delay. If State conIrol can effect an improvement my jL t e would go for that proposition « er y time. Trusting some abler than mine will go more fully into TEMPERANCE.
