MEAT TRUST.
♦♦♦« OPERATIONS IN AUSTRALIA
By Telegraph—Press Association.—OopyrittUt Sydney, Friday.
Mr Malkow, manager of the new Queensland meat works, denied that there was any Meat Trust in America. There was no connection between Armour's, Swift's, and other big companies. The business started in Brisbane was entirely Swift's, and there was no English capital in it. He declined to say whether he intended to start business in other States. He was not going to do local business at present, but did not know what he would have to do in the future. He was prepared to tell the Commission anything he knew; the company had nothing to hide. He. accounted for the increased price of meat to the increase of population and prosperity of the United States, consequent on the reduction of exports. Mr McGowen, Premier, states that in vielv of the rumours a watchful eye is being kept to prevent the possibility of the Beef Trust getting a huld on the meat industry in New South Wales.
