A letter from Wenchow slates that floods on August 2!Uh were of the proportions of a tidal wave. The river overwhelmed Tientsing and ten thousand were drowned. The flood entirely destroyed Konoo and washed away several small towns on tho river. Wenchow on tho morning of tho 13th presented a terrible sight. Tho ruins nf numberless homesteads woro floating swiftly seawards where on crouched men, women and children.

It is estimated between thirty and forty thousand were drowned.
