OTOROHANGA'S PROGRESS.

The prices realised at the Bale of leasehold township Bectiona at Otorohanga yesterday constitute a significant mark of the confidence with which the future of the district is regarded. No town centre owes its prosperity or progress to its own immediate surroundings, and Otorohanga, like its neighbours, is destined to progress according to the manner in which its hinterland is developed.

That a bright future is ahead of Otorohanga is not to be doubted. The time and manner in which present anticipations are to bo realised lies to a great extent upon the efforts of both town and country residents to promote the permanent industries upon which prosperity depends. Undoubtedly, the dairying industry is to play a highly important part in the future of all King Country centres, and the rural lands of Otorohanga are admirably adapted for dairying purposes. In order to prosecute the industry to advantage, and make provision for steady and assured progress the first essential is a good system of roads. A beginning has been made by the settlers to provide for immediate necessities in this respect, and the settlers are to be congratulated on their enterprise. Much has still to be done and no effort should be spared by both town and country residents to provide the most up-to-date transit facilities. The King Country has many years of leeway to make up, and in advocating ita requirements this point should be emphasised. That the sections were secured by local people is a sufficient mark of local confidence to indicate that no effort will be neglected to promote the interests of the district in every possible manner.
