PROPOSED BRANCH RAILWAY.

THE WAITEWHENA ROUTE. For a number of years past there has been an agitation for a railway through the Waitewhena connecting the Ohura with the Main Trunk line at or near Te Kuiti. Fi,ve years ago this line was advocated by a number of people ,in preference to the continuation of the Stratford-Ongarue route. However, with the adoption of the Te Koura junction for the Stratford line the matter of rivalry between the settlers along the Waitewhena route and the Ohura settlers terminated. The advocates of the Waitewhena line as a branch railway are now devoting their energies in th i direction of having the proposed line authorised. As will be seen by advertisement in another column a meeting is to be held In the Aria Hall on Friday, August 30th to discuss the proposal.
