TRANSPORT OF STOCK.

DISCUSSED IN THE HOUSE,

A recent question in Parliament from Mr Wilson, member for Taumarunui, to the Minister for Railways, was on the subject of instituting a better service for live stock on the Main Trunk railway. The Hon. Mr Hemes replied that if stock owners would combine and undertake to fill a train the department will always run a special train for stock on reason able notice. The Minister of Railways discussing the subject in the House, said, he was informed by the department that it was impossible to move small lots of stock except by ordinary goods trains. Mr Dickson: Why should sheep trucks be left on sidings? MrHerriea: If you can give me instances of such cases I will look into them. • I dont' believe in that. I will see such a practice is stopped. Live stock should have preference. With reagrd to the suggestion that a stock paddock should be provided half-way, he would look into the proposal.
