A private letter received from the United States says the captain of the California was dismissed, and tho captain of the. Carnndiia covered with honours, besides be in/:; presented with £1(1,000 in cash and several loving raps. The captain of tho Carpathia was also awarded tho Congressional medal. This honour is only /riven by special Act of Congress, and Captain Roßtrom is the seventh in tho hisolory of America to receive the medal. Even Admiral Dewey did not /ret it.
