Own Correspondent. A special meeting of the Otorohanga Town Board was held in the Council's office on Wednesday. Present —Messrs Hosking (chairman), W. Vicary, Jno. Ormsby, C. Elliott and J. Gardiner. "
Valuation Department.—As an unsatisfactory letter was received from the Valuation Department in response to the board's application for the subsidy of 25 per cent, on rates collected the to..n clerk was instructed to write to Mr C. K. Wilson, the member for the dstrict, in reference to the matter.'
Building Permits. —An application for a building permit for three shops for Mr Gardiner was granted; Mr Funnell's application for a permit for a dwelling house was also granted; a permit was also granted Mr J. Morgan for two shops subject to the plans being approved by the Works Committee; Mr Heerdegen's application for an.extenison to his premises was granted subject to certain alterations being made. Municipal Reserve. —A deputation from the Chamber of Commerce, Messrs Willis, Whyte and Worthington, waited upon the council, and pointed out that as the remaining vacant sections in the , town were shortly to be submitted to auction they considered it would be an opportune time to secure a suitable reserve for municipal purposes. It was shown that the council would require a site for council offices and a yard for possible concrete work, and tarring, macadam, etc., and very shortly a fire brigade station would be requited. The council agreed that it would, no doubt,"be cheaper to procure the sections at once, and after a conference they decided to apply to the Maniapoto Land Board to have sections 89 and 13. block 16, withdrawn from sale and to b3 reserved for municipal purposes.
More Street Formation. —The engineer is to be asked to submit levels and grades of the township so that the street formation and metalling may be proceeded with as soon as possible. A special meeting to dicsuss the subject is to be held on Monday. Condemned Buildings.—Notice is to be sent to the owners of several buildings that the inspector has condemned the buildings and that they are to be removed without delay.
