OTOROHANGA TOWN COUNCIL.

Own Correspondent. The ordinary meeting of the Otorohanga Town Council was held in the Council's office on Monday, August sth. There were present—Messrs W. Vicary, J. Ormsby and C. Elliott. In the absence of Mr Kosking, Mr Ormsby was elected to the chair. It was decided that the contractor, Mr Rothery, should be released from completing the work in Ranfurly street.

A letter was received from Mr Whyte suggesting that as Kanawa street was a chain and a half wide, a small space should be left in the centre ofthe road so that later on trees could be planted down ths middle, and a roadway made on each side. The council decided not to adopt the suggestion, but to metal the centre 01 the road, and in the future, if possible, trees should be planted on the side walks.

Subsidy on Rates. —The council are to write to the member for the district, Mr C. K. Wilson, and point out to him the council's position, regarding the subsidy on rates collected, and to forward copies of letters received from Valuation Department, and if the position is as the department point out, to ask him to take the necessary steps to put this township on a more satisfactory basis.

Works Committee. —Cr Elliutt was elected a member of the Works Committee.

Railway Crossing.--The council are to write to the Railway Dnpartment asking that the crossing at the south end of Otorohanga station be filled up so as to allow the road formation to be carried out up the centre of the road.

Public Buildings Site. —The clerk was instructed to write to the member for the district pointing out the necassity of gazetting a site for public buildings, etc. Waitomo County Council. The clerk is to write to the Waitomo County Council declining any responsibility re damage done to the road. Culverts.—The council decided that a uniform style of culverts and crossings should be insisted upon, and the council are to put them in according to the engineer's specifications.
